In this post, we’ll teach you the ins and outs of self-tanning so you can go from streaky to stunning in no time. Get ready to rock that radiant glow year-round like a pro!
PREP IS KEY
In order to achieve a streak-free and natural-looking self-tan, it is important to prepare your skin properly beforehand. These three steps will make all the difference in achieving the bronzed goddess status! I know we want to add a quick glow, but we recommend starting the day before for the best results.
↳TRIM THE HEDGES
If you want to avoid streaks, shaving is necessary. Ensure you shave at least 24 hours before applying self-tanner to ensure the hair follicles have closed back up, avoiding the speckled look.
One of the most important steps is to moisturize your skin beforehand. This will help to create a smooth, even canvas for your tanner to work with. Apply a generous amount of body lotion or oil all over your body. Pay particular attention to areas prone to dryness, such as your elbows and knees. I recommend this the day before. We want the skin moisturized but not sticky or leftover residue that will interfere with the self-tanner penetrating.
I love a quick dry brush just before the application. It helps to exfoliate the skin and also helps to reduce the appearance of cellulite and achieve glowing skin.
You don’t want to apply the product all willy-nilly; you’ll end up with streaks and an uneven complexion. Here are a few application tips to help you get a flawless, streak-free tan:
Apply in sections, using long, sweeping motions. Start with your legs and work up to your torso and arms.
Use a tanning mitt to apply the product evenly. This will help to avoid any streaks or missed spots and keep you from having hands that look like you have some disease.
Allow the product ample time to dry before getting dressed or going about your day. If it’s an option, go braless. Bras tend to rub and leave lines.
You should wait at least eight hours before showering to let the self-tanner develop fully. Whenever you shower, avoid harsh exfoliating products that can strip your gorgeous glow! It’s best to rinse with water; pat your skin dry and apply moisturizer. If your skin is dry, the color will flake off faster. Last but not least, don’t forget to apply sunscreen.
