DO YOU SUFFER FROM SKINCARE OVERLOAD?

Well, darlings, buckle up because it’s that time of the year again at our cozy country spa – half-price facial month! Now, every year, I witness a common dilemma among you lovely ladies. You’re slathering on every product under the sun, thinking it’s the key to radiant skin, only to wonder why your skin is misbehaving. Sweethearts, it’s often as simple as this: product overload. And let me tell you, when I spill the tea on this, some of you get your panties in a twist.

Sometimes, to achieve that luminous skin, you’ve got to take a step back and look at your skin at its most basic level. Most clients, surprisingly, don’t even know their skin type, let alone what works best for them. We need a solid foundation to build on, and it all starts with understanding your skin type.

Now, my lovelies, determining your skin type at home is the first step towards selecting the right skincare products and crafting an effective routine. Here’s a little guide for you:

Start with a Clean Face:
Wash away the day with a gentle cleanser, removing any makeup, dirt, or excess oils. Pat that lovely face dry with a clean towel.

Wait for an Hour:
Let your skin breathe and return to its natural state. Hold off on applying any potions during this time.

Observe Your Skin:
After about an hour, pay attention to how your skin feels in different areas of your face.

  • Dry Skin:
If your skin feels tight, flaky, or rough, darling, you’ve got dry skin. You might notice fine lines and wrinkles more prominently.
  • Oily Skin:
If your skin shines like a disco ball, especially in the T-zone, and feels slick to the touch, you’re in the oily skin club.
  • Combination Skin:
Some areas dry, others oily? Congratulations, you’ve got combination skin. It’s like a skincare mixtape.
  • Normal Skin:
If your skin feels just right – not too oily, not too dry – and you’re not battling any significant issues, you’re blessed with normal skin.
  • Sensitive Skin:
Reacting to products with redness, itching, or irritation? That’s sensitive skin, sweetheart. It may feel a bit tight or uncomfortable.

Once you’ve nailed down your skin type, it’s time to simplify that routine. I’m talking cleanser and moisturizer – yes, just those two. Put down those pretty bottles for a week and consistently cleanse and moisturize day and night. Assess where your skin is at. The following week, introduce exfoliation twice a week and reassess.

Why do I love this method? For one, our skin type changes over time, and we often stick to the same products, ignoring our skin’s evolving needs. Secondly, too many products can confuse the skin and create chaos. After that second week, take a good look at your skin, identify your concerns, and then add treatments targeting those goals.

Think of this as a detox for your skin, bringing it back on track to glow like the star you are. Skincare is never one-size-fits-all, and your skin is always changing, just like the fabulous you. So, let’s invest in skincare that moves the needle, not just some trendy TikTok product. Cheers to detoxing and embracing the glow, my dears!
