Is humidity the key to dew skin?

A skin tool you probably already own and didn’t even know it. Why a humidifier is your skin’s new best friend, Y’all know I love skincare that you don’t have to think about, like sleep masking. Now you can add sleep hydrating. The juicy, dewy, plumpness we all strive for can be achieved by sleeping with a humidifier by your bed.

Dry air accelerates the evaporation of water from the surface of your skin, known as Transepidermal Water Loss (TEWL). When your skin loses moisture faster than it can be replaced, it becomes dry and flaky. Which is something we all deal with living through Canadian winters.

A humidifier will help to reduce TEWL by keeping sufficient moisture in your home air. The increased moisture content will keep your skin hydrated and glowy despite dry environmental conditions—the result: is dewy skin all year long.

Yup, you read that right–all year round! Depending on where you live, you may experience varying heat and humidity as the seasons change. It may be hot & humid outside, but thanks to our HVAC systems, it is cool inside.

While this might provide comfort, they wreak havoc on your skin. Air conditioners circulate dry air through the room, removing moisture from the air. This dry air evaporates the moisture content from your skin, leading to a rise in skin problems over time.

Considering the average human spends 93% of their time indoors (this is a disturbing stat..get outside!), our indoor air quality should be a priority. I am not saying to turn off your AC when it is 35+ outside, but adding one to your bedroom will help counteract the drying effects.

Let’s go over the benefits of this humidifier.

♡ effortlessly hydrates your skin

♡ combats dryness, sensitivity, dullness, & fine lines & wrinkles

♡ promotes a healthy skin barrier

♡ protects you from bacteria & pollution

♡ supercharges your skincare

♡ increases the efficacy of topical products

♡ alleviates symptoms of cold, flu & allergies ( nasal congestion, sinus irritation, cough )

♡ reduces the spread of viruses indoors

Although running your humidifier all night is perfectly safe, there are safety tips you should regularly practice to ensure a safe home environment.

  1. Monitor home humidity levels. The optimal home humidity levels range from 40% to 60%. Humidity levels exceeding 60% create a breeding ground for mold and bacteria, which can infiltrate your home. A hygrometer is a device that monitors home humidity levels. You can use a hygrometer to monitor home humidity levels and prevent excess humidity.
  2. Clean your humidifier regularly. Regular humidifier maintenance is imperative. If not properly maintained, your humidifier can develop mold, bacteria, and other harmful contaminants. Review your device manual for maintenance requirements and cleaning recommendations.
  3. Make sure you use the correct type of water in your humidifier. Check your device manual to determine the kind of water required for your device’s water tank. Most humidifiers require distilled water to prevent mineral buildup in the water tank.

Well-hydrated skin is often the healthiest. Balanced hydration levels can give you the coveted dewy look paired with a consistent skincare routine. This clean beauty addict loves the skincare benefits that come from the purest form- water!
