Dermaplaning what is it & who is it for?

Isn’t dermaplaning just shaving your face? It is essentially shaving the fuzz (known as vellus hair) off the face, but it’s so much more!!

Dermaplaning uses a smaller blade to slough off dead skin cells. Hello, exfoliation! It sounds intense, but it’s painless, quick, and effective at removing dead skin cells and peach fuzz. It’s superficial (there will not be blood) and strangely reminiscent of a cat licking your face (sandpapery).

What can you expect from a dermaplaning treatment?

  • Taking off the top layer of dead skin cells helps skin care products absorb better and procedures work better.
  • It tricks the skin into thinking it’s wounded and boosts collagen production, helping decrease fine lines and wrinkles.
  •  It prevents oils, dead skin, and debris from being trapped inside the follicle.
  • A primer for makeup as it allows the foundation to look more like your skin, rather than it sitting on top of your dead skin and peach fuzz.
  • Skin looks more luminous and glowy because it’s more even-toned.

The number #1 question woman ask is, “Will dermaplaning make me grow a beard?” The short answer is no! The hair that grows on women’s faces is called vellus hair and differs from that on a man’s face. Dermaplaning removes the fuzz just above the skin’s surface and does not (and cannot) impact the growth, color, or texture of a woman’s facial hair.

What skin types/conditions should avoid dermaplaning?

  • sunburn
  •  active breakouts
  •  sensitive skin
  •  rosacea or eczema
  • have taken Accutane or tretinoin in the past year.
  • undergoing cancer treatment

The best part about this treatment is there is no downtime! You won’t be able to stop touching your face; it will feel like 20year old skin (but please don’t touch…bacteria, yuck). SPF is a must, and keeping the skin hydrated + protected will help maintain your results until your subsequent treatment. We recommend a treatment every 6-8 weeks.
